Hi! I'm Amanda Nepo. I am a creator at heart studying in the Iovine and Young Academy at USC to learn the intersection of arts, technology and business. Starting from a background in being a magician and creating my own magic, I am now exploring my creativity in other aspects like physical product design, special effects/theater production, immersive experiences, and emergin technology. Check out my work!

Summer and Fall 2024 I worked on building a robotic lawnmower that can make drawings in the grass. With no prior robotics experience, I leveraged online resources and AI to teach myself robotics and develop this project from scratch.
Key Features:
Automated Precision Turns – Executes 90-degree turns with real-time accuracy tracking.
Drift & Slippage Analysis – Records turn accuracy and calculates drift after each movement.
Cloud-Connected Data – Outputs performance metrics for further optimization.
Customizable Pathing – Can be programmed to perform 10+ turns for detailed turn data analysis.
This project merges robotics, automation, and creative expression, pushing the boundaries of what autonomous machines can achieve in outdoor environments.
Role: Technical Designer, Fabricator, Video Editor
Bite Battle lunchbox reintroduces play, connection, and fun into lunchtime. Boredom and screen staring is replaced by a ridiculously engaging game that is embedded right in the box itself!

I created a high-fidelity furniture piece inspired by tensegrity—an art form where tensioned strings create a floating, self-supporting structure. This design challenges traditional construction by balancing compression and tension forces.
Key Features:
Handmade high fidelity
Electrical hand done soldering - designed and soldered the wiring of LED strips for the lighting.
Mechincal and Material choice - found the right tubing and clear wire to create the tubes and learn how to deisgn the hand made tube LEDs to be in the tensegrity form
As part of Creative Labs USC, my team explored how to redefine the house party experience by transforming a backyard into an immersive, themed environment—similar to a tiki bar. I led the design and construction of a collapsible tiki bar table, enhancing the visual experience while maintaining practicality for a home setting.
Key Features:
Collapsible & Portable – Designed for easy setup and storage within a backyard.
Immersive Themed Design – Creates a visually engaging tiki bar atmosphere.
This project combined physical product design, experience-driven storytelling, and functional aesthetics to elevate everyday gatherings.
I designed and built a leather notebook from scratch to serve as a space for recording my future ideas. Starting with just a piece of leather, string, and paper, I crafted a minimalist yet functional notebook, incorporating personal branding into the design.
Key Features:
Fully Handmade – Bound using traditional stitching techniques for durability.
Custom Laser-Etched Branding – Features my MakeDopeStuff ambigram logo, readable right-side up and upside down.
Designed for Spontaneous Creativity – The ambigram ensures that ideas flow naturally, no matter how the notebook is opened.
This project blends traditional craftsmanship with modern laser etching, resulting in a one-of-a-kind creative tool.
My group project focused on developing a comprehensive plan for a live experience. This included research, experience design, sensory engagement, a refined drawing set, interactive elements, a rough prototype, budget planning, and branding.
In addition to contributing to the overall creative direction, I was responsible for creating 3D digital assets of the venue using SketchUp.
The project, Cohort, is a live experience designed to combat post-college loneliness by fostering meaningful connections. Participants are introduced to someone they have one thing in common with, but they have only 30 minutes to discover what it is. The experience scales to groups of four, eight, or more, creating a dynamic and engaging social challenge.
Inspired by the card game We’re Not Really Strangers, Cohort serves as an interactive extension of its concept, transforming passive conversation into a fully immersive, real-world experience.
For a complete breakdown of the experience, please refer to the slide deck.
Produced by USC's Performing Arts Committee, Defined is an experimental experience that celebrates the importance and signifigance of literature through interactive live expreinces.
I was the Lead Experience Designer for this production and my main role was to unsure interactive expreinces for the audiences. Besides helping out with the whole production, below and to the left are the two main experiences I designed with my Assosiate Experience Designer.
Capsules of Thought
We want every visitor to walk away from their experience at Defined with something tangible, and this interactive moment makes that possible. Visitors will be invited to respond to a prompt thoughtfully, fold up their message, and place it into the gumball machine for someone else to receive later. In return, they’ll receive a message written by another member of the USC community, creating a small but meaningful cycle of connection.
Your “Definition”
We’re always evolving, with countless ways to define ourselves. Choose the word that speaks to you most in this moment. Place your disk into the projector to illuminate your word and step into its light.
I was the special effect leads for the gory usc student short film Brothers in Blood. Here is one of the special effects I did; A low tech device to simulate projectile vomit. By just using a tube, mashed berries, and a person blowing on the other end it can look like someone proejctile vomited. how lovely.
I was the Asst. Scenic Design for the Brand New Theater Club One Acts production Fall 2024 and additionally for the one act Death Goes On A Date I developed the special effects so that when the character Mors, the Roman personification of death, touches a flower it instantly wilts. (Unfortunatly I could not get any better footage so I included test footage as well to better see the visual)
I was Co Props Design for the Musical Theater Repetiore club production Falsettos. I assisteed with construction the overall creative vision for the props as well as built some of the props. Here are some pictures of the puppets (group effort), large utensils, and a split away red silk that I built build.
I am redesigning an eyelash curler that is meant to be on the go with ease and cleanliness
People often take a large number of photos during meaningful events or trips, but when it comes time to post on Instagram, selecting which ones to include becomes a challenge. The process of filtering, comparing, and organizing photos can be time-consuming, and lacks a clear structure, leading to delays or indecision. While some users enjoy aspects of the curation process, others find it overwhelming or inefficient. There is an opportunity to better understand how people approach photo selection, what makes the process enjoyable or frustrating, and explore ways to support them through more intuitive, flexible, or even playful tools that help them showcase their experiences.
In the user research and testing phase.
